I walked back via the road just to change it up and it’s a very short walk, albeit rather dangerous on the narrow shoulder on a windy road. Wouldn’t go out of my way for it.The trail is nice, but there are lots of ticks. Did cross about 4 times over stream. Some good views but a lot of time the brush is too high to see much. There were 3 or 4 Creek crossings, but they aren't an issue for waterproof hiking boots. It is very narrow at the trailhead for about 300-400 feet but then opens up wide enough to let bikers safely pass.

Was still pretty but check your map before taking the branching point. There is some easy creek crossing over rocks and lots of shade up until you get to the south side (after the gate). It’s the opposite side of Skunk Hallow so if you hike Skunk Hallow then you’ll be essentially hiking Acorn Creek too. We completed the loop but we punched through the snow over and over again. Not worth the trip unless you’re going to do river things. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. But a lovely trail overall.Whoops. This trail is a nice option not too far from Dillon and Silverthorne that doesn't seem to get the same crowds as similar trails across the valley in the Gore Range. The hike is difficult due to the steepness of the trail as it nears the saddle along the ridge connecting Ute Peak to Ptarmigan … Definitely go RIGHT at the arrow (the arrow points to the left and is for a longer, steeper trail) and then follow the trail CLOCKWISE because otherwise you'll have the gorgeous mountains at your back most of the time they're visible. Do not follow it. I would recommend going counterclockwise on the loop until you hit the ridge with the beautiful view, and then when it directs you into the forest, to turn around and call it a nice hike. We went on a Monday morning and encountered only one other group the whole time. We were alone for most if the hike. The loop split is after that, another .5 mile or so. I know I'm new to this but I would rate this trail easy plus or moderate, as there are a few spots where the elevation rise was challenging for me.Beautiful trail! The bugs were constant but a little but of DEET and a wide-brimmed hat made everything just fine. You go through all different kinds of forests (healthy ones! when you get there, you’re walking and then trees open up and all of a sudden BOOM MOUNTAINS. Please plan ahead when visiting the trail, there is limited cell service in the area. Lots of wild flowers including Columbine. A couple folks had dogs off-leash. The flowers were spectacular, as was the scent of sage as one brushes past the blooms and gnarly twigs. There are three stream crossings to be exact and all are pretty easy to cross if you don't mind getting your feet or boots a little wet, however they are more full with run off early on.
