Greatly admired and much in demand by his contemporaries, the pianist Harold Mabern was a witty, affable and articulate individual. Wonderful recording. Love the conga playing! There’s also The Feeling Of Jazz, Coltrane’s 1962 bluesy collaboration with Ellington, now transformed into a sparkling cha-cha and prompting an impassioned conga cadenza.Two of the album’s numbers are Coltrane-inspired originals from Sanchez – the bright and breezy title track with boisterous timbale soloing from Joey DeLeon, and Yam’mote (coined from the words yam and camote) which joins blues with salsa. Trane’s Delight is their 27th and it’s been issued to celebrate the music of John Coltrane who’s been an enduring influence throughout Sanchez’s career.
