I like the challenge of figuring these things out and love sharing what I’ve learned. So even this was much better.But I did some experimenting, trying different things to keep the starlings completely blocked out.

It is lovely watching literally dozens of birds of all varieties rooting about all over the garden when I put them out, normally twice a day but more often at the moment as they are all collecting them to take to their nests.I have the same guardian feeder as Woodpecker and Bramble, but it isn't successful in my garden.
Because of the way their beaks work, they have more trouble with tube feeder ports. But my plan is to use both this feeder and the upside-down suet feeders I already have. Larger birds like starlings, grackles and Blue Jays should be blocked.This also means that larger woodpeckers like Red-Bellied Woodpeckers and Pileated Woodpeckers are probably going to be blocked out as well.
I have attached two of them to each of my 6 port feeders so they have a choice. Once they saw wrens going in and out of this feeder so easily, they decided to give it a try. Even if it was hanging by the hanger, the mesh tube fixes the glass dish firmly in position. I suggest you start with suet balls, which attract more birds than mealworms.

There is about 4 ½” of space from the outside edge of the bowl to the wire mesh.
