I had heard that the Platinum felt cheap and that Sailor nibs were sublime, and I'm VERY impressed. Most people say their nibs have more feedback than Sailor’s.I’ve read that the tipping on the Sailor is different to most nibs and not roundedIt's a rounded tip. The 1911 is a cartridge/converter fountain pen with the exception of the Realo part of the line which is a piston filler. In older models the profile of the tipping is similar to an oval with the same effect as the present grind.As far as feedback goes, in theory a B nib should be relatively smooth. It has 3 tines (compared to Sailor's 2) and a If I did go with the Platinum, it probably wouldn't be the music nib since I can't find them for less than list price, and $216 for a plastic bodied pen is a tad bit ridiculous. The alternative would be an edge.
A pen of substance if you will.Because of the price point of the King of Pen, it does dig into your wallet a bit..er..a lot. I would like to repeat that I won this second hand pen via an auction for a great price and I’m very happy about it. I found I've got a Pro Gear Large, and it's really good. The pro gear may feel like it is has a little more heft to it, but only slightly - and it has a slightly more "standard" shape, where the 3776 is more faceted on the sides and thinner on the end.I like both pens very, very much - and have recently ordered one of the Piccadilly Night Pro Gear to add to the rotation.You can get the Blue, Red, and Black Platinum 3776 on Amazon right now for about $80 USD - so that is not a bad deal.
